Welcome to the second edition of ‘A Day in the Life,’ where we spotlight our Marketing Executive, Megan Sheldon. Megan has been part of the Storm team for over two years; In addition to her marketing and administrative responsibilities, she has expanded her role to include iGaming compliance.
Could you tell me your job title and how long you've been working at Storm?
'I've worked at Storm Games for over two years now. I began as Marketing with administration, I am now a Marketing Executive and also practise in iGaming compliance.'
Do you have a specific morning routine that helps you get into the work mindset?
'I typically arrive at the office by 7:45 am to allow time to setup and catch up with my colleagues before we officially start at 8 am. This allows me to prepare and get settled at my desk for the day.'
How do you start your day as a Marketing Executive? And what time do you start?
'My mornings usually begin with a cup of tea and my laptop opened up for 8am. The team start every day by saying good morning and checking in on one another via Skype. At this point, I usually catch up on the latest news. For those of us working in the office, our mornings often begin with a discussion about whats going on in the world or what we've been watching, or how we spent our weekends. For me, building relationships with colleagues is crucial since we spend so much time at work, we spend most of our week at our desks, sharing an office space so making sure we can communicate and just enjoy work is vital. After that, I dive into my workday.'
What does your typical workday look like? How do you structure your time? Do you have daily meetings, any personal breaks?
'I start my workday by checking emails as well as reviewing Storm's social channels like LinkedIn and Instagram for any updates or missed notifications. To maintain a healthy work/life balance, I avoid checking these platforms outside of work hours to keep clear boundaries. Once I’m caught up, I use my diary to outline the key tasks for the day, which helps me to prioritise and organise my workload. Mornings are often dedicated to drafting and brainstorming content ideas for the week. I evaluate if there are any essential posts that need to go out. To bring these ideas to fruition, I collaborate with the graphics team, sharing my concepts and coordinating with them on timing to ensure everything is completed. Beginning the day with content creation stimulates my creativity and sets a productive tone for the rest of the day. Since I’m the sole member of the marketing team, I usually have the flexibility to decide what tasks to focus on and when. Currently, I’m working on plans for ICE Barcelona 2025, which will be a key exhibition for Storm. Planning for an exhibition as large as this can take months with the design of the stand to the merchandise selected to contracts and safety and so on.
Around midday, I typically schedule or post content, such as our blogs or updates about Storm for example new team members. I time these posts strategically to maximise the reach of Storm’s content.
My personal break is usually at 12pm, I take 30 minutes to grab some lunch and recharge for the afternoon.
I generally reserve my afternoons for meetings, using the morning for preparation. For example, I’m currently conducting meetings for ICE Barcelona. Lately, I have also been dedicating my afternoons to compliance reading, ensuring I stay up-to-date with gaming regulations. There’s always a lot to cover, so the afternoons tend to pass quickly'
End of the day - How do you wrap up your workday? Do you have any rituals that help you transition from work mode to personal time?
'I finish work at 4:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and at 1:30 pm on Fridays, which gives me a longer weekend and sufficient time to recharge. To transition from work mode to personal time, I completely disconnect by turning off Skype and other work notifications while I'm out of the office. This, for me, is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.'
