An Interview with Head of Content at Storm.

Updated: Oct 18, 2023

We have accomplished significant milestones at Storm this year, one of which involves the successful recruitment of Julian Beck. Jules is a highly regarded and dedicated professional within the gaming industry. In his role as the Head of Content, he is tasked with overseeing our gaming content, with a primary focus on staying abreast of current trends and fostering innovative concepts.

Can you tell us about your role as Head of Content at Storm?

I am responsible for all the content at Storm which includes Online and Land based across Uk, Europe, US and the rest of the world. Working with the Studio’s on a daily basis reviewing all aspects of game development and collaborating on new ideas, mechanics and anything else anybody wants to expand on. I also like to get involved with new projects and currently we are developing our own RGS so working on that (though very technical) has been great as we can feed in new ideas and functionality we can apply ourselves. Watch this space for further news.

How long have you been Head of Content for Storm?

I started at Storm in May so nearly 6 months now. I am passionate about Content and throughout my career have worked on both B2C and B2B sides of the business.

Where did your interest in Game Content come from?

It all started when I was about 8 as my Dad used to take me and my brother to the Amusements in Leeds. We played Slots and arcade games and the interest has never stopped since then. I joined William Hill when I was 18 and love all aspects of the Gambling Industry. Slots are my favourite though.

What does a typical day look like as Head of Content at Storm?

Well we always get together first thing in the morning to go over the days and weeks priorities and who is doing what. As Storm are flexible with WFH and in the office, it’s a good time for everyone to get together each day and review all the current working priorities for the team. As we have multiple projects on going across the business, its always good to see how we are progressing and whats coming up. Its also worth mentioning that we finish at 1-30 on a Friday so the weekend starts a little earlier for us at Storm. Not to say I don’t have a play at weekend if we have a new build up :)

What characteristics do you think benefit this role?

With content I think it’s a culmination of a lot of things I have developed over the years in the Industry. Understanding the customer and what goes inside their head for me is the main thing I always try to get across when developing a new idea/game/mechanic. Small elements of a game can make a big difference, so every aspect of game development is just as important and needs the time and attention to get it right.

What is your favourite part of being Head of Content?

Here at Storm I love working with the rest of the team in the Studio each day and or our sister company in the US. I have worked in the industry for a long time and you realise that people are the biggest attraction to working at places and how important the Management is In-Tune with the teams.

What challenges do you face as Head of Content?

I think working with the Storm team on game content is really fulfilling. You get the time and attention you need to ensure your making the right game with the right maths and client side looking amazing. On the back of this you get a lot of things coming at you from different directions whether its Storm or Primero, so keeping everything on track is always a big challenge. Like I mentioned before the people here at Storm are amazing and whilst I've only been here 6 months, it feels like a family affair and everyone has a voice.

Finally, what is your favourite game of Storm’s?

Well not wishing to give anything away but we are working on a Vikings themed game currently and feel this game has everything on offer to customers and should be great to play with a lot going on in the base and bonus . Its only in the early stages of development but really excited about this one once we get it over the line.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to join Storm Games?

We are always on the look out for enthusiastic, hard-working and friendly employees to join our ever-growing team! Whether you are a developer, engineer, artist, reach out!

Email over your CV to megansheldon@stormgt.co.uk, we look forward to hearing from you.
